Our Marketing and Collection Officer,
My name is Kate and I am the Collections and Marketing Officer at Nature in Art. From an early age I have loved exploring art galleries and museums, whether it was on a school trip or on a visit with family or friends. After studying History of Art and Museum Studies at university I knew that this was my dream job!
As the Collections Officer I look after Nature in Art’s growing collection, spanning 1500 years from over 60 countries and cultures by over 600 artists. This includes making sure that the objects are cared for correctly, completing all the relevant documentation when an object is given or loaned to the museum and also helping with the hanging of exhibitions and displays. I love that the displays are always changing at Nature in Art which I think is one of our unique features. It is great to hear visitors talk about things that they may have not seen on display before and hearing about their favourite objects too!
Another aspect of my job is co-ordinating our gallery stewards, who kindly volunteer their time and passionately support the museum. I also plan our art course programme for adults. It is great fun developing the programme and working with the course tutors. I love seeing the artwork that people produce during, or as a result of one of the art courses, and how this inspires others to enrol on a course and have a go themselves.
As the museums Marketing Officer I am the point of contact for the press and media, keeping them up to date on forthcoming exhibitions and events at the museum. This sometimes involves been interviewed on local or national radio (which is sometimes a bit scary!) but it is really great to share our love for Nature in Art with others. I also update our Facebook and Twitter accounts with information about what’s on at the museum and enjoy making new connections with people in this way.
I love the variety that my job brings and it is a real privilege to work with such a great team of people, in beautiful surroundings and with such a unique and diverse collection.
